SGPC Marks 34th Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh

31 Oct 2018 09:45 AM PDTCHANDIGARH, Punjab—The 34th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh, who had punished the former Indian PM Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, was observed by the SGPC today at Gurdwara Sri Jhanda Bunga Sahib situated in the periphery of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Notably, the former Indian PM Indira Gandhi had ordered an army attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib complex resulting demolition of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and carnage of hundreds of innocent Sikhs.

Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Hazoori Raagi Bhai Kuldeep Singh melodiously sung the Gurbani verses and Bhai Kulwinder Singh performed the ‘Ardas’. Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh read the sacred ‘Hukamnama’ on this occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Giani Jagtar Singh said that the Sikhs can never forget the June-1984 holocaust. He prayed for the unity, affection and understanding among various Sikh groups so that the Sikh community could get in high spirit.
The family members of Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh Agwan were honored by the SGPC appointed acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh.
It may be recalled here that the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead by Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh on October 31, 1984 in New Delhi in avenge of armed invasion into central Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh had attained martyrdom on spot while Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh & Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh (who was accused of masterminding this assassination) were hanged on January 6, 1989.
