Protest March Taken Out in Jalandhar Against Unjust Conviction of Three Sikh Youths
Posted: 14 Feb 2019 08:41 PM PSTJALANDHAR, Punjab—On February 14, the Sikh activists belonging to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee taken out a protest march in Jalandhar against the unjust sentencing of three Sikh youths to life. Notably, Notably, three Sikh youths namely Arwinder Singh (Nawashahr), Surjit Singh (Gurdaspur) and Ranjit Singh (Kaithal, Haryana) were addressed life sentence by the Nawanshahr Court headed by Justice Randhir Verma just for possessing printed biography of Shaheed Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, photographs of 13 martyred Sikhs of 1978 and a mobile phone.
Starting from the Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, the protest concluded at Deputy Commissioner’s Office where the Sikh activists submitted a memorandum to the administration seeking intervention of the President into the matter.
“Mere possession of posters and literature relating to the Sikh struggle was an annulment of the freedom of expression,” said Satkar Committee leaders Sukhjit Singh Khosa and Balbir Singh.
Taking on the Punjab government for backing Police cops in framing Sikh youths in fake cases, the Sikh activists expressed deep concern over the illegal indictment of life sentenced youth Arvinder Singh under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. “The Police cops are acting post facto to foist another case to strengthen their first one,” they added.
