Surprise Turn As SGPC Appears To Nod At Sarbat Khalsa 2016

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Newly appointed SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has not spoken against the Sarbat Khalsa taking place next week at Talwandi Sabo. “It’s too late to stop the preparation now, we will establish contact with the Sarbat Khalsa organizers and try to find a platform to unite,” he told Sikh24.
Sarbat Khalsa was initially scheduled to be held on Vaisakhi and was later postponed to November. Due to Government pressure, the organizers called it off once again and have now given a call to summon the gathering on December 10, 2016. The SGPC had denounced the original Sarbat Khalsa 2015 gathering.
When asking why the former President Avtar Makkar refused permission for the SK2015 at Akal Takht Sahib, Prof. Badungar said, “Times were different. There was no unity within the Panth back then. A lot has happened since then. I did not say that SGPC is entirely okay with Sarbat Khalsa but we must put our differences aside and unite at some common platform. This is why I am not against the gathering even though it may not be representative of the entire Sikh Nation.”
