Punjab Govt Repeals It’s Own Ban On Vehicle Red Beacon Use

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Merely ten days after imposing ban on the use of red beacon light to end VIP culture, the Congress led Punjab government today roll backed its decision. On March 18, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s Cabinet had announced that it had decided to stop use of red beacons by ministers, legislators and bureaucrats in Punjab.
Although the decision was welcomed by a major section of Congress legislators and they had started abiding by the instructions to remove red beacon. But some legislators had openly denied abiding the instructions.
Congress legislator Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, who represents the Khemkaran assembly segment in Punjab assembly, had openly said that he worked hard to achieve this position so he won’t remove red beacon from his official vehicle.
It may be recalled here that the red beacons were removed on March 18 soon after the Amarinder-led government took a decision to shun VIP culture at its maiden meeting. The government’s move to shed the VIP frills was in line with the state Congress poll manifesto. Though the chief minister and the Cabinet ministers were exempted in the Congress manifesto but still they had decided to bring themselves within the ambit of the decision.
