BATHINDA, Punjab (October 30, 2014)—Following the inaction of the SGPC to stop distribution of alcoholic drinks in the diwan hall of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh criticized the apex Sikh Gurdwara committee.  He alleged that SGPC has remained unsuccessful in stopping bad acts by people who were ruining the sanctity of the diwan hall where parkash of Guru Granth Sahib is done time to time to accommodate large scale programs.
“If SGPC cannot stop such people, then it should remove the Diwan Hall sign from there,” he added. Jathedar Nandgarh refused to bring the Holy Scripture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to the Diwan Hall two days ago for this very reason.
Jathedar Nandgarh met a Granthi and Sewadar of SGPC who are currently lodged in Bathinda Jail to discuss their case. These men had stopped another person from drinking alcohol in the building. During the incident, a quarrel turned violent, due to which a case was filed against the Granthi Singh and Sewadar of SGPC by the police of Talwandi Sabo.
Jathedar Nandgarh said that a person has died in the Diwan Hall due to consuming alcohol.  He informed Sikh24 that people often drink alcohol in the Diwan Hall, but the Manager of the Gurdwara is not taking any action against them.
“I cannot allow bringing of the Holy Scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to the Diwan Hall until the SGPC takes action against these people,” he stated.
Giani Nandgarh has said that he will ask the District Police to re-investigate this case and rescind the charges filed against the Granthi and the Sevadar of SGPC.
