Spirit of GURMAT
The index of spiritual wisdom enshrined in Gurbanee rests in the ability to appreciate the light of Divine Hymns in depth that reflects God's Glory, Greatness and Essence of Intellect. Guru Nanak used variety of metaphors, and some convenient worldly object to describe it in such a poetic style so as to express some of the subtler philosophical truths and thereby convey some deeper spiritual message. The flow of Gurbanee is much larger and deeper then ocean, therefore devotion, dedication and consciousness is required for mindful reading there by to have insightful contemplations.
All the writers of Gurbanee (Gurus and Bhagats) have said it as first person, addressed to the subtle body, (mind & soul), because close coordination between the two is required in all respect for grace full life style. Read the Gurbanee as in first person, while reading Nanak think that He is within you. Similarly while reading Kabeer think he is in you and reading along. The soul is a part (ansh) of supreme soul that prevails in entire creations. This way it is simple and easy to understand the divine message clearly so as to follow and mould life in accordance to the direction by Guru! When the mind is engaged in Wisdom; it sheds all mental dispositions or conditioning and returns to its Original Nature as Pure Consciousness.
While contemplating, pure thoughts sprout as Devine forces and radiate joy, hope and peace. Thoughts power lies latent in us, and can be blasted to make or mar our own life and destiny. Following Guru's guideline attract forces and condition most akin to those of our own thoughts. These particular thought within connects us with a similar thought and instantly reflect on our face and features. They chasten, chisel and fashion our countenance, which is an index of our inner character. The facial expressions expose the true state and substance of our mind, when focused and directed become dynamic forces and produces deep impressions.
Interpretations of Gurbani require deep insight into it. The flow of Banee is much larger and deeper then ocean that demands careful analysis of each divine hymn in relations with another similar hymn and the context of the subject. Just by simply translating the banee in the name of Guru or bhagat ultimately convey wrong message. Preachers do so for their personal glory and money. There is no final authority on interpretations of Gurbanee? Each individual has equal right to translate, interpret and understand according to his/her own intellect. Please note that Banee of Baba Nanak has been further elaborated and simplified by His entire successors.  All of them have simplified and rewritten for clear understanding by the reader.
There are countless Divine Virtues of Akal Purakh enshrined in Gurbani that reflects the precious spiritual wisdom, the real spirit of Gurmat. A true Jeevan Jach of a Sikh, a state of being from within! Sri Guru Granth Sahib is also considered the mirror of Sikhi, engross and swim across through this huge ocean of divine wisdom, all the way from Mool Mantra to Mundaavanee, so as to understand the divine message enshrined in it, for the ultimate peace of mind everyone is looking for. In Gurbanee there is Giaan, there is Naam, there is Hukam, there is Shabad, there is Guru and there is piaar and peace and precisely all these are one and the same refered as 'Amrit'. As said by Guru Ramdas “Vich baanee amrit saaray”. Upon contemplation the virtues such as truthfulness, patience, contentment, compassion, humility, presence of God, detachment from Maya, and desire for release (mokhu) will follow on its own, as the divine hymns will reflect profound energy that elevates mind and cleans up the layers of filth and pollutions.
