As usual, a well balanced and informative article.
My impression as one not very conversant with the Punjab politics, is that there is unity in the Sikh
 diaspora about the noble cause, while the jury is still out about the method i.e.  "bhukh hartaal"
 (hunger strike) in the context of Sikh ideology and Shaheedi tradition.
An article by late S. Narain Singh (1901-1987), "It is the man and his cause that make him a 
martyr", makes interesting reading. (Published by Pingalwara, Amritsar).
The man, the cause, the timing and the method of challenging injustice are important 
considerations, for, "dying in itself is not a worthy aim to be extolled." (p14) 
Guru Tagh Bahadur ji's conversation with young (Guru) Gobind Singh ji when the Kashmiri Pundits
 came to Guru ji, gives pointers to these important components of Sikhi shaheedi. 
There are always lessons to be learnt for future reference.  
We owe our gratitude to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh ji.
