31 Jan 2019 09:14 PM PSTCHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Specially crafted gold and silver coins released by the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee in commemoration of the 550th birth anniversary are receiving overwhelming response from the Sikh devotees. The first lot of 700 coins has been sold out within a month.
Sharing the development with media, SGPC secretary Balwinder Singh Jaura Singha informed that the SGPC is working on availing more such coins for the devotees. “The proposal is there to offer gold coins weighing 2 gm or 2.5 gm so that more people can afford them. We have got the fresh lot of silver coins, but the gold coins are still to be made,” he added.

It may be recalled here that the SGPC had placed around 700 these specially crafted gold and silver coins for procurement at Dharam Parchar Committee’s office in Amritsar on January 4.  These coins were officially launched by the Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore on November 23 at Gurdwara Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi. Although these coins were supposed to be made available from the next day, but that did not happen due to some administrative reasons.
One side of the coin contains an impression of Gurdwara Nankana Sahib while the other side has the image of Gurdwara Ber Sahib.
Earlier, the Gold coins of 5 grams and 10 grams were made available in the pure form of 24 carat, while the silver coins of 25 and 50 grams have 99.9 % purity.
