Punjab Government Mute over Bhullar Execution
Sikh organizations and relatives of Bhai Davidnerpal Singh Bhullar have expressed grief over lack of action by the Punjab Government to save him from the gallows of death.  Prof. Bhullar’s wife, a resident of Canada who is currently in India also expressed total shock as the court has again failed to deliver justice.  Prof. Bhullar’s native village Dyalpura Bhaike in Bathinda is also in shock. Parkash Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab has failed to do anything in regards to saving Prof. Bhullar from execution.  In contrast to seeking abolition of death penalty of S. Balwant Singh Rajoana, Badal has supported the execution of Prof. Bhullar.
Before 2011 SGPC elections, both SAD (B) and Sant Samaj had raised the issue of wrongful detention of Prof. Bhullar; however the former completed changed its stance when it failed to raise issue of Prof. Bhullar in the State Assembly. Although today news media in India is labeling Prof. Bhullar as a dreaded terrorist, it is far from reality.  Prof. Bhullar has remained in police custody for almost two decades and has faced immense torture.
He is currently in a very unstable condition as he has faced both physical and mental torture.  He has been kept isolated from other inmates and even his relatives are not allowed to meet him.  As per a statement by his lawyer KTS Tulsi, Prof. Bhullar is undergoing treatment at a medical health institute.
After being deported from Germany, Bhullar was forced to confess his “crimes”.  Allegations against him were all based on these confessions which were made mostly in unstable conditions. Although both the SGPC and Akal Takhat have condemned death sentence of Prof. Bhullar, the SAD (B) continues to remain a mute spectator.  If the execution orders are carried out, it will be a huge blow to humanity and democracy in India.
