                   The Boston Marathon Bombings,

Dear Friends,
As more details and emotional stories are reported daily of the Boston Marathon Bombings, we, UNITED SIKHS, are heartbroken by the tragedy. We hope those in the area are safe and without injuries. We pray for those who are suffering the loss of loved ones, who were injured, and to all those affected by the horrific attacks. We encourage our nation to draw together rather than apart.   We salute the first responders, community members, faith leaders, and lawmakers who have come together in Boston and around the country to honor the victims and stand together. Many are looking for a reason and someone or a group to put the blame on for such a cowardly act. While many are not educated on religions and the many differences, innocent people tend to get the backlash wrongfully. Let's educate those who may be confused about what we really stand for. The Sikh community in the United States has been dealing with issues of bullying, racism and discrimination on all levels.
UNITED SIKHS would like to remind you that we have a hotline to assist with these issues. Please take advantage of UMEED (Hope) - National Family Resource Center with a toll free hotline – 1-855-US-UMEED  (1-855-878-6333) to assist with Community Empowerment and Education. Don't be a victim.  Sikhs should practice their faith without any fear and in case of suspicion or a backlash, please call 911. For any questions you may have, feel free to reach our International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA) and Humanitarian assistance teams at 8882431690 or 6466883525.
For those of you in the New York tri-state area, this Sunday, April 21st, you are welcomed to join us for "Give us Peace; From Mourning to Hope" at The General Theological Seminary on 20th Street between 9th and 10th Ave., at 4:00pm . Sikh prayers will be read along side every other religion's authentic, prayers for the dead.  The ceremony will include a recitation of the cities around the world that have been afflicted with dreadful violence, lighting of candles a quiet chant and much more.
UNITED SIKHS, pledges to continue to support and protect you and your loved ones. Please feel free to download and distribute our KNOW YOUR RIGHTS informational booklet that was created by the UNITED SIKHS law team to keep you informed of what you are entitled to when experiencing bullying, betrayal, discrimination, or false accusations. Be educated and empower yourself about your rights when encountering various law enforcement agencies.
Regards,
UNITED SIKHS
