Indian Army Chief Beats Drum of “Reviving Insurgency” in Punjab

04 Nov 2018 08:10 AM PSTCHANDIGARH, Punjab—Addressing a seminar at the United Service Institution of India in New Delhi on November 1, the Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat claimed that attempts were being made by the “foreign powers” to revive “insurgency” in Punjab. Going further, he sought an action from the Indian government in this concern.
Asserting that “insurgency” cannot be dealt with military force, he pitched for adopting an approach in which all agencies, the government, civil administration, military and the police, work in an “integrated manner”.
Bipin Rawat’s statement has drawn sharp criticism by the common Punjab masses. Torpedoing Rawat’s claims, common Punjab masses have strongly objected over Indian army chief’s fanatic views about the Punjab polity.
The Punjab masses are considering Bipin Rawat’s statement as an indication of an upcoming wave of Indian state excesses on Sikhs.
Meanwhile, Sikh24 has learnt that the Joint Secretary of Indian Home Ministry Daniel E Richards has directed the various state governments and union territories to monitor activities of NGOs and other organizations indulging in anti-national activities and take an urgent action against them. Beside this, the Indian government’s dictatorial order also asks some states to trace activities of NGOs indulging in demonstrations against various developmental projects.
