30th Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh Observed

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The 30^th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh was today observed with full religious fervor and devotion at Gurdwara Jhanda Bunga situated near Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Notably, both of them were hanged on January 6, 1989 for assassinating the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, a Hazoori Raagi Jatha of Sri Harmandir Sahib sung Gurbani verses in melodious tones to pay homage to the great martyrs.
Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib Giani Balwinder Singh honored the family members of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh with Siropaos (robes of honor).

SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann, SAD (Amritsar) leader S. Navdeep Singh Amritsar, Dal Khalsa leader Kanwarpal Singh, AISSF president Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, SYP’s President Paramjit Singh Mand etc. were also present on this occasion.
It may be recalled here that the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was shot dead by Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh on October 31, 1984 in avenge of armed invasion into central Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh had attained martyrdom on spot while Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh & Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh (who was accused of masterminding this assassination) were hanged on January 6, 1989.
