Trump Storms Out of Shutdown Talks
It was a “total waste of time.” That’s how President Donald Trump characterized Wednesday’s meeting to negotiate an end to the partial government shutdown, now in its 20th day.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer recounted that after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made it clear that Democrats would not fund the president’s Mexican border wall, Trump abruptly left the room, saying, “We have nothing to discuss.” White House officials indicated that without a deal, the president may circumvent Congress and declare a national emergency to build the barrier with Pentagon funds.
