The Longest Shutdown
Amid worries over unpaid air traffic controllers and abused national parks, the partial government shutdown over President Donald Trump’s border wall is now history’s longest. At 22 days, it’s eclipsed a 21-day 1995-1996 pause under President Bill Clinton. Trump continues to say he’ll fund the wall using emergency powers if Congress won’t do it. Meanwhile, a new Russia probe development:
Before special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe began in 2017, the FBI reportedly launched a counterintelligence probe, suspecting the president might be under Kremlin influence.
Presidential lawyer Rudy Giuliani said no subsequent revelations “means they found nothing.”
