Prof. Bhullar Hanging Postponed based on Medical Report
NEW DELHI (June 19, 2013)–Sikh24 has learned that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Tejendra Khanna, has sought attention from the Union Home Ministry to postpone the death sentence of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar. The decision has been made considering the medical report submitted by a team of doctors constituted by the health ministry. The submitted report stated that Prof. Bhullar is unfit for hanging as he suffered from severe depression and suicidal tendencies.
The Director General of Tihar Jail has been informed about the postponement of the death sentence. However it must be noted that the Indian government has just delayed the death sentence and not dismissed it completely, despite the consecutive protesting by various Sikh communities in India and abroad.
Lawyer Anup G Chowdhary and Justice MB Shah who are prominent members of the Indian  judicial system have also supported the release of Prof Bhullar on humanitarian grounds.
Bhullar was surreptitiously arrested in  a car bombing case under the Terrorist And Disruptive Activities ( TADA) act which is no longer in force. The Indian Government has been faced with immense pressure to release Prof. Bhullar due to a lack of sufficient evidence against him, but the Central government is very reluctant to release him.
