Clergy Letter on Behalf of Persecuted Indian Christians

Dear friend,

In collaboration with the Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America (FIACONA), I have helped draft a letter to the US Secretary of State expressing concern about the ongoing and skyrocketing persecution of Christians (and other religious minorities) in India. Please view it here.

Please read the letter. There are many reasons why we should stand in solidarity with persecuted religious minorities in India, but recent reports from multiracial and interfaith groups like Savera about how the country’s predominant Hindu nationalist movement draws strength from a support base in the US add weight to our rationale, as do reports by the Bridge Initiative from Georgetown University

Current signatories to this letter include the President of William Jessup University, the Special Assistant to the President of Wesley Theological Seminary, the former Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, an Anglican Archbishop, and others. Please check out the letter and consider signing.

Now, a quick note. The cut-off date for signatories is 3 May 2024. We are soliciting signatures only from “Christian leaders.” Why? While we are delighted if you do sign, we are hopeful to use the impact of a large number of Christian leaders signing to attract media attention and draw eyeballs to this issue. If you are not a Christian leader, your signature does not help in this regard.

And yet, one way you can help is if you know someone who is in a position of Christian leadership — particularly in the clergy, such as a pastor, priest, or something like that — who you can attract to this letter. We — I — beg you to please look into whatever contacts you may have to ask them to sign on.

Yours, very sincerely,

Pieter
