*NEW DELHI: In a new twist to the JNU row, students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, behind bars under sedition charges, has alleged that the police wrote many things in the interrogation report as well as in his
statement without his consent. In his complaint, written from Tihar Prisons cell, to the National Human Rights Commission, Kanhaiya has alleged he was beaten up in front of cops on the Patiala House court premises and they were “mute spectators”. Here are exclusive excerpts.*
*“During police custody, the interrogators did not beat me up but continuously created a mental pressure. Police have themselves incorporated many things without consent in my statement”*
*“The police took me to Patiala House court. The conversation of security arrangement among the policemen accompanying me scared me.”*
*“As I entered the court premises, a crowd in lawyers’ robes attacked me.It was a planned attack, with an intention to kill me. They beat me, dragged me and abused me when policemen jostled inside the courtroom. I was in shock.”*
*“They (policemen) did best to save me.”*
*“What happened on that day still scares me. I am still in trauma and fear that any untoward incident can happen to me and my family.”*
*“But the policemen in the courtroom No 3 were just mute spectators when the lawyers came inside and attacked me again.” (Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal was present)*
*“I was arrested by the Delhi Police from outside my hostel inside JNU campus without even giving any summons or arrest warrant… Police seized my purse, mobile phone, ATM, identity cards, bank account details, Facebook ID and password, email IDs and password, Twitter account and password. Even they seized my room keys.”*
*“I asked the judge the reason behind my arrest and then appealed to police to produce evidence. The police showed a video to the magistrate. I told the police as well as the magistrate that I was not the organiser of the
February 9 sloganeering incident nor was present during the incident.”*
*“The interrogators asked to express my opinion on unity and integrity of the country saying that the country's atmosphere has been vitiated. I told them that I fully believe in unity, integrity and constitution. They asked
to write my opinion. I wrote it. They asked me to write in the form of an appeal. I was clueless. I had no option. I wrote in appeal format.” (A copy was tweeted by Commissioner of Police B S Bassi as “an appeal issued by
Kanhaiya”)*
