Honeypreet Insan is said to be the frontrunner in the race to succeed Ram Rahim. Like him, his so called “adopted daughter”, Priyanka Taneja alias Honeypreet also has a controversial past. 1. Where is now Priyanka Taneja, who was later named Honeypreet- Honeypreet Insan and adopted by the Dera head as Daughter?

2. Authorities are on high alert in Punjab and Haryana, as Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s followers went on the rampage that left 38 dead after his conviction of Friday. Ahead of Monday’s court proceedings, the two states ordered schools and colleges shut, suspended mobile services, stepped up security and threw a five-tier cordon around a Rohtak jail, where a judge handed out punishment to the Dera chief for raping two disciples 15 years ago.
3. The court observed that the dera head behaved like a wild beast and thus deserves no mercy. “The court is of the considered view that when the convict did not even spare his own pious disciples and had acted like wild beast, he does not deserve any mercy,” the court said.
4. “In other words, a man who has no concern for humanity, nor has any mercy in his nature, does not deserve leniency from the court,” the judgment states.
5. 12:55pm: Daughter (Priyanka Taneja, who who was later named Honeypreet and adopted by the Dera head) accompanied Ram Rahim in a chopper. She stayed in jail for more than 2 hours after which jail the DG objected and she was taken away, alleges journalist S Mahajan.
6. 12:46pm: A multi-layer security cordon manned by police and 23 companies of paramilitary forces has been thrown in and around Rohtak and also around the Sonaria Jail where Ram Rahim is lodged.
7. 8:01am: A woman seeking an audience with Ram Rahim arrested from Sunaria Outer bypass on Sunday night. She has been sent to Jhajjar jail, reports ANI.
8. 7:55am: Security stepped up outside Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s residence, reports ANI. Khattar faced criticism for failing to prevent Friday’s violence. The Punjab and Haryana high court took both Khattar and PM Narendra Modi to task over the Dera violence. Modi said Sunday that violence in any form will not be tolerated in India.
9. 7:40am: We have ensured no Dera follower is allowed to enter the entire Rohtak district or move around jail: Navdeep Singh Virk, IGP Rohtak Range.
Lockdown and high alert:
10. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court judge Jagdeep Singh, who had on Friday held the Dera chief guilty of rape and criminal intimidation of two female disciples in 2002, will be flown to Rohtak for announcing the sentence.
11. The district jail premises, about 10 km from Rohtak town, has been completely cordoned off by security forces, including para-military forces and Haryana Police. The Army has been kept on stand-by.
12. No movement of people, other than those authorised, will be allowed within a distance of 10km from the prison premises.
13. “We are fully prepared for any situation. The army has been kept on stand-by,” Haryana director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu said.
14. Rohtak range Inspector General (IG) Navdeep Singh Virk said that 28 companies of para-military forces, along with Haryana Police, have been deployed in Rohtak.
15. Security forces were on high alert again on Monday in Haryana and Punjab as both states braced for the sentencing.
16. Curfew was reimposed in Haryana’s Sirsa town, where the sect’s headquarters are located, on Sunday. The curfew will continue on Monday.
17. The sect has lakhs of followers mainly in Punjab and Haryana.
18. It was Valentine’s Day in 1999 when Vishwas Gupta was asked by Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to marry Priyanka Taneja in a simple ceremony of exchanging garlands at Sirsa.
19. Taneja, who was later named Honeypreet and adopted by the Dera head, shares his quirky fondness for bling and movies.
20. On Friday, she was the only one from “family” to accompany Gurmeet to the CBI court that pronounced him guilty of rape and flew with him in a chopper to the Rohtak jail as his “attendant”.
21. And an attendant of the Dera chief is what she was all through her marriage, says MS Joshi, a Chandigarh-based lawyer, who later got Vishwas bail in a dowry case filed in Sirsa.
22. “Vishwas was taken to Bangkok and hill stations in India with Honeypreet, who used to stay inside the babaji’s room. In May 2011, she stayed with Ram Rahim at a Kodaikanal hotel. In June, he saw them together in an objectionable position at the Dera.
23. He was allegedly beaten up by Ram Rahim and told to stay mum. After 11 years of marriage, Vishwas moved out of the Dera to Sector 15 in Panchkula with his parents in July, Joshi recalls.
24. What followed was straight out of a Bollywood flick. A team of Dera strongmen, led by one Pradeep Singh, who was later arrested, started clocking his every movement. Vishwas moved the Punjab and Haryana high court for protection in October, accusing the Dera chief and Honeypreet of adultery.
25. The Dera hit back. Honeypreet filed a case of dowry after 11 years of marriage, claiming Vishwas was demanding Rs 2 lakh from her. “The Guptas had ancestral property and his father had retirement benefits. Why would they demand Rs 2 lakh?” says Joshi.
26. More was in the offing. Vishwas was soon facing an FIR in a cheque bounce case filed in Gujarat and another in Rajasthan. His petition to court says a sale deed of his 11 kanal ancestral land had also been forcibly executed in favour of the dera.
27. The pressure proved back-breaking for the Guptas. Though a Sirsa court granted Vishwas anticipatory bail in the dowry case, the Guptas first went underground and finally sought a widely-publicised apology before the dera chief. All court cases were withdrawn with mutual consent.
